Hospital stay

The first night in the hospital was horrible. Apparently the CEO & Board of Directors was coming for a tour on Wednesday, so Tuesday night, they stripped, washed and waxed the floors on the maternity floor, it took hours! At 2am, when the nurse came to check on me, she was concerned I hadn't slept, so she gave me 2 Lortabs and all it did was make me feel drugged. I honestly, didn't sleep at all that night. So, Wednesday the Dr made them put a note on my door and I was not to be interupted, I did manage to sleep for a couple hours in the afternoon.

The second night, I would nurse Payton & send her right back to the nursery, the Dr had me take Benadryl to help me sleep and I guess it worked well enough, I managed to fall back to sleep quite quickly after each feeding, so when we left on Thursday, I felt ok.

Payton Marie O'Banion

Payton Marie O'Banion was born on Tuesday, February 16, 2010.

Matt & I went to the Dr for my 37 week checkup, we had packed our bags in case she sent us to labor & delivery. When she examined me I was at almost 4cm and 70% effaced. She wasn't sure what to do, so she stripped my membranes and told me to get dressed and we'd talk more. By the time I got dressed and we walked down the hall to her office, I was having contractions. She decided she was afraid to send me home, so we went to L&D. I sent Matt to eat, it was about 12 and he hadn't eaten, while I got registered. I was admitted by 12:30, the Dr came in & broke my water and they started me on Pitocin. At 2pm I was still at 4cm, at 4pm, I was at 7cm, at 4:15 I was at 9. They had to hold her in while the Dr ran over from the office! She arrived at exactly 4:45pm, 7lbs 1oz, 20 inches long.

5 year nniversary

Happy Anniversary Matt!!

We celebrated our 5 year anniversary and I was thinking about everything that has happened in 5 years.

We've lived in 4 houses, owned 2. Bought 2 vehicles. We've dealt with my unemployment. I think it's safe to say we've had 2 kids. Matt's had 2 major surgeries. I dealt with kidney stones. I can't even tell you how many gallons of paint we've gone through, at least 6 new granite counter tops and all new flooring in our current home. Other then building a home, I think we've dealt with any major thing life can throw at us!! And, I believe we are happier today then we've ever been. Money is tight, but we are in a good place about it all, we are on the same page. Sure, it was easier when we didn't have Garrett, but he is such a joy, it more then makes up for it.

I look forward to what life can throw at us in the next 5, 10, 25, 5o years!!

I love you Matt!

36 weeks

I had my 36 week checkup today. Everything looks great, I gained 2 pounds, but I normally go in the morning and this was a late afternoon appt, and at this point, I just don't care anymore, lol!! My BP was great, and the best news ever.....I am 3cm and 50% effaced!! The baby is coming, soon!!

I got back next Tuesday, she said she's about 90% sure she'll be inducing me then, unless I really , really want to wait longer, I said I'd think long and hard about it, lol!!

I have to say, what a difference from Garrett, I was at 1cm forever, here I am 36 weeks and at 3cm, crazy!!

I will try and post an update next week, if I don't, well, you know I'm busy :)

Garrett Conversations

Here are some recent conversations Garrett and I have had:

On Thursday, I was really tired, so Garrett "put me to bed", complete with blanket, he patted my back while he sang Twinkle, Twinkle little star to me, and even rubbed my forehead and face. If I opened my eyes, he'd say, "close your eyes, momma". It was so sweet. Then he went and got his keys and phone and came to wake me up, he said it was time to go to Target. I asked what we were going to Target for and he said diapers! I reminded him he doesn't wear diapers any more and he said for the new baby momma. LOL. Yes, we go to Target a lot! We then had to "sit" in the car. He drove, he put on his seat belt, pushed some buttons on his phone and then set it in his "cup holder" and started the car.

Saturday morning, I decided to let Matt sleep in a little bit, so I was sitting on the couch when Garrett woke up, this is what he said when he walked out of his room, "Momma, I need a horse, I'm too big to ride my horse (it's a stuffed animal), but horses live on farms, we don't live on a farm, you don't want to open the gate, so we'd have to lock it (he mimicked locking the gate), if we wanted to ride the horse, we'd have to climb the fence, do you know how to ride a horse, (i said a little bit), does daddy, (i said, yes, daddy knows how to ride a horse), good." Then he said "whew" and came and laid by me, lol!!

This morning after Matt left, G and I were laying in my bed and we were talking about the baby, he told me he needed to pick up all his toys so the baby wouldn't trip. Then I told him that I'd have to go to the hospital to have the baby, that led to how was the baby coming out of my tummy, I told him the Dr would help and that seemed to work. I told him that he would stay at the house with Grandma & Grandpa and Daddy, but he could come visit me. He wanted to know how Grandma & Grandpa were coming, I explained in the car, he said, "they better watch out for Cheetah's, and whales and elephants". He does not understand where Michigan is, so he said we needed a map(thanks, Dora!!), when I said i didn't think we had one, he said we should go to Target to buy one!

35 week checkup

I had my 35 week checkup yesterday. Things went well, she said I'm measuring right at 35 weeks, I somehow managed to only gain 1 pound! So, I have gained 23 pounds, according to her scale :) My BP was good, almost no swelling, which is good. I do have another bladder infection, which is not good. It can cause early labor, so I'm trying to take it easy while the antibiotics work. She is now saying, just by looking at me, that she thinks I'll deliver sometime between 37 & 38 weeks! Every time I go it's different, but she said the baby is in position, it's already dropped, so whenever the contractions start, it will be go time :) she will examine me next week, and after that i'll probably go twice a week so she can keep a closer eye on me. Her goal is if I'm dilating, she's going to try and help things along naturally, if that doesn't work, then she'll induce. So, I'm really sorry to everyone who is trying to plan when they will come, but it's any ones guess!!

I spoke to my BC/BS nurse this morning, she said I need to get my bags packed, the babies bag (bought) & packed and a bag for Garrett. She said technically my labor with G was 5.5 hours, since your second is usually half that, she's very concerned this baby will come fast. So, if I have to take G to the hospital, then so be it. I also need to find a back up ride to the hospital, she reminded me that I could go into labor while I'm home alone. When I mentioned that sometimes Matt works an hour or more away, she said I definitely need a backup ride, I can't drive myself! I think we've been so focused on me being induced that we all forgot this baby may come on it's own at any time!!

I will be 36 weeks tomorrow, the baby is full term at 37 weeks, so it, quite, honestly, can happen at any time! Maybe not until 40 weeks, maybe at 36 weeks, no way to know.

So, today I am going to take inventory and see what else needs to be bought to bring him or her home. And I guess I'll pack a couple bags, just in case :)

3 years old!

Garrett had his 3rd birthday yesterday. It is so hard to believe he's 3! It's such a cliche, but they really do grow up so fast!!

Some stats: he's 38.5 inches tall and 34 pounds, both in the 75th percentile. He had been in the 90th, but the Dr said it's perfectly normal for those both to spike and level off at this age. His head is 51.5 inches, not sure where that fell. He had his blood pressure taken, which he thought was SO cool. He's been going to my ob appts and they check mine, so he was so thrilled they checked his. The Dr said he's doing great, he's reached all his milestones and while his "asthma" is doing good now and he's not on any meds, it is a seasonal asthma and he will probably have issues once Spring rolls around.

He is such a big boy to me! Sleeps in his big boy bed, all night long :) he is no longer in a high chair! Both changes happened this summer. He is now potty trained. He talks so good and I just love hearing how his little mind works, listening to him pretend and play is just something else. One of our favorite things to do is lay in bed together when he first wakes up and we just talk and kind of hang out, I hope that doesn't have to change when the new baby comes.

He is a big lover, loves to hug and kiss. Even when i'm yelling at him for something he'll run over to hug me. He reminds me to slow down and enjoy him while I can, he will be really big soon and won't want to kiss his mom one day!!

Happy 3rd birthday Garrett! I can't wait to celebrate many, many more birthday's with you!!
